Itinerary

  1. 01

    Konjic

The first stop of the day is a short visit to the old part of Konjic. The symbol of Konjic is the Old Stone Bridge, which has connected the banks of the Neretva River for centuries.

It stood from 1682 until WW2, when the German occupiers destroyed it during their retreat. It was reconstructed as the original bridge in 2009 and has been on the list of national monuments of BiH since 2003.

We then continue through the most striking parts of the Neretva River canyon, telling the unique stories of Herzegovina along the way.

  2. 02

    Kravice waterfalls

Next we arrive at Kravice waterfalls. Sitting on the Trebižat River, Kravice is a mini Niagara hidden in the Balkans, forming a natural amphitheatre 40 km southwest of Mostar.

The state has protected it as a natural rarity for its beauty and untouched nature. Its drop is around 25 meters, and the surrounding pools are a popular swimming and picnic spot.

  3. 03

    Počitelj

Later we arrive at Pocitelj, the stepped Ottoman-era fortress village. It is a medieval and Ottoman-Mediterranean wonder of nature and architecture, a place like no other. Cupped in a steep rocky amphitheatre, it is a warren of stairways climbing between stone-roofed houses and pomegranate bushes.

Towering over the scene is the Kula (Fort of Počitelj), 45 m above sea level, which offers breathtaking views. In one photo you can frame the Neretva River, Hajji Alija's mosque, the mekteb, imaret, medresa, hamam, han and clock-tower.

Pocitelj has a magical air that transcends time, a place to wander, get lost in thought, and feel a profound sense of wonder.

  4. 04

    Blagaj

Blagaj is a haven of peace and natural harmony. You will see the Tekke, a dervish monastery built around 1520, an important monument of the early Ottoman period in Bosnia & Herzegovina.

The dervishes still use the monastery to perform Dhikr, the praise of God. Blagaj Tekke sits at the spring of the river Buna, surrounded by tall mountains. The garden, cooled by the freshness of the river, offers one of the most spectacular views in the country.

  5. 05

    Mostar

We finish in Mostar, the historical, political and cultural centre of Herzegovina, set at the foot of Velež Mountain in the Neretva River valley.

Mostar was one of the most destroyed cities of the Bosnian war, yet enough preserved architecture remains to speak to the rich cultural past of the city.

The most famous landmark is the Old Bridge, built in 1566 by Hayruddin, on UNESCO's World Heritage List since 2005. The bridge is 24 m tall, and the Mostar Diving Club still dives off it as they have done for centuries. We also see the Crooked Bridge, the oldest arch bridge in Mostar.

You will visit the only surviving Turkish hamam in Mostar, the Koski Mehmed Pasha Mosque with its climbable minaret over the Old Bridge, and walk along Kujundžiluk, the 16th century cobbled bazaar lined with craft shops and traditional restaurants.

We got in touch with the team and they arranged a private tour for us. The cost was slightly higher, but it was one of the best experiences of our lives. Our guide Arna spoke almost perfect Italian and told us about every place and every story; Haris drove us far and wide and chatted football along the way. They both showed us the love they have for their country with such respect that we ended up loving it too. Eleven out of ten.

A site and history packed day trip. If you like photography and history, or just seeing beautiful places, this is for you. Our guide Senad rearranged the sequence of our stops to hit each one at the best light. He was very accommodating and a wealth of information about the region.

I absolutely loved the tour to Mostar, Konjic, the Sufi house, Pocitelj and Kravice Falls. We visited places with incredible natural beauty, and the positive energy of the group and the guide made the experience truly memorable. The guide was friendly, well organised and full of insight into the country's culture and history.
